The Hairy Affair

We all have that one unique person in our lives. The one who is always happy and bubbly, who is full of shine and adventure, who isn’t afraid to live. That one person that makes you think: “I wish I was that brave”. My niece was that person to me. She had the most amazing personality; carefree, fun, outgoing, happy and colourful, and her hair said just that! It was always in some new colour, or style; pink, spiky, black, and blue with flowers and bows stuck into them. Her hair was an extension of what was going on inside her, and she used her hair to express herself. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 29. The doctors gave her 2 years to live. She started with chemo with the possibility of the cancer shrinking, and of her having more time. So, all her beautiful hair fell out. She died almost exactly two years after her diagnosis.

My work entitled, "Hairy Affair" explores the psychological aspects of hair, what it means to us, and why it has such powerful meaning. I looked at the trauma of losing our hair through, primarily cancer, and the lengths we will go to get our hair back or replace it.

An Insignificant Day

Exploration of the road I walk to work every day. I wanted to take this insignificant walk and find beauty and meaning within it. I explore mainly with sound and wanted the soundtrack to convey the feeling and mood of the visuals. This is a dangerous walk, and I also wanted to convey the anxiety I feel while walking there every day.
